Welcome to NatureBASICs
and congratulations – you have taken the first step on the road to becoming a NatureWatcher. All you have to do is let us know what you saw during your visit in the provincial park this summer. Our scientists will use your observations to help us understand the effects of climate change.

How can I help?  By collecting and sending us information about the six species in NatureBASICs, you are giving vital knowledge to scientists. From your sightings, scientists will be able to tell if the species are increasing or decreasing in an area. And that is really important for them to know.

Why do scientists need to know about these species? The NatureBASICs species were selected because they are ‘indicators’ of changes to our environment. That is, their numbers can ‘indicate’ or tell us if the climate is changing in an area and by how much. When a species shifts its range, it faces dangers to its survival. Trusted food sources in their traditional habitat may no longer be available. Learn more.
