About Nature Canada
Nature Canada is a member-based non-profit conservation organization. Our network includes 40,000 supporters and more than 350 naturalist organizations across Canada. Our mission is to protect nature, its diversity, and the processes that sustain it.
Spreading the Culture of a Nature Nation
Nature is embedded in our culture. Historically, our identity as a people has been tied to a landscape of virgin forest, rugged mountains and endless prairie. In recent years, however, that identity has been changing. Canada’s population has become more and more urban and we often lack the opportunity to experience Canada’s natural wealth first-hand. Canadians rank the environment as most important, yet fewer Canadians than ever have a personal connection to the land.
Nature Canada addresses this by tapping into our strong feelings for the planet’s plant and animal species and giving people an outlet to act positively on nature’s behalf. Programs like Living by Water, NatureWatch and Parks and People provide Canadians with opportunities to physically explore the natural world, and to contribute to a greater understanding of the threats our ecosystems face today.
