NatureWatch provides a chance to explore the natural world and to learn about the threats that nature faces today. NatureWatch allows Canadians to enjoy our natural heritage, with the hope that this will inspire them to be part of the nationwide study of climate change.
NatureWatch is a series of citizen environmental monitoring programs (also called community-based monitoring or ‘citizen science’) where concerned citizens gather and record observations about environmental conditions.
People face a barrier when they ask what one person can do in the face of such a complex challenge as climate change. NatureWatch provides a way for average Canadians to contribute in a meaningful way. At the same time, they develop sound scientific observation and data collection skills that they use to become ongoing, active and responsible stewards of the environment.
Five NatureWatch programs have been developed since 2000. The species and methods of study have been developed to be scientifically relevant, accessible to non-scientists and fun for the public. Learn more…..
